Literary rights were not granted to Wichita State University. When permission is granted to examine manuscripts, it is not an authorization to publish them. Manuscripts cannot be used for publication without regard for common law literary rights, copyright laws and the laws of libel. It is the responsibility of the researcher and his/her publisher to obtain permission to publish. Scholars and students who eventually plan to have their work published are urged to make inquiry regarding overall restrictions on publication before initial research.
The collection consists of photographs taken between the years 1876 and 1955 depicting mining towns, machinery, miners, mills, land sites, scenic views, trains and events in Colorado and New Mexico. Also included in the collection are newspaper clippings and other ephemera. The photographs were received in homemade albums and have been maintained in their original order within each series. The titles given to the series were the titles of the original album. The photographs were also received with captions which have been maintained. If known, the photographer has been listed along with the photograph.
