The collection consists of reports, financial information, correspondence, clippings, photographs and ephemera all detailing the early history of Pizza Hut restaurants. The materials in the collection date from the 1950s through the 1990s.
Pizza Hut started in 1958 by brothers, Dan and Frank Carney, who at the time were also University of Wichita students. Their first restaurant was located in a small building at Kellogg and Bluff, and is now located on the Wichita State University campus. By 1971 Pizza Hut had become the largest pizza chain in the world in both sales and number of restaurants. In 1977 Pizza Hut merged with PepsiCo. and opened headquarters in Wichita at 9111 E. Douglas.
