Judge Patrick F. Kelly was born in Wichita, June 25, 1929. He graduated from Wichita East High School and Wichita University. In 1953 he graduated from Washburn University Law School. The next two years were spent in the Air Force where he served as assistant Staff Judge Advocate. In August of 1955 he joined the firm Kahrs & Nelson where he later became a partner. In 1960 he ran for a seat in the Kansas state senate and in 1968 ran as a candidate for Congress, but was defeated both times. He then joined John Frank to form the firm Frank & Kelly that continued until 1968 when he joined Richard A. Render and Albert L. Kamas to form Render, Kamas & Kelly. He withdrew in 1975 to become a sole practitioner until he was appointed by President Carter as Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. He was sworn in on June 6, 1980. He retired in 1996.
