Content Note

The J. Floyd Breeding collection of Congressional Papers covers Breeding's political career from 1957 to 1966. The collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, news clippings, visual and audio materials. The collection also includes social memorabilia from the white house during the Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson and Kennedy Administrations. A vast majority of the papers relate to Breeding's campaign, ie., campaign contributions and expenditures. A portion of of the collection is correspondence between Breeding and his campaign manager, Lawrence Brennan. These letters offer valuable insight into the Democratic political climate in Kansas during the 1950s and 1960s. Another segment of the collection covers Breeding's tour of duty as an expert foreign consultant with the Department of Agriculture. This position involved world-wide trips in an attempt to exploit the world grain market. Breeding provides an agricultural economic indicator of the conditions in the developing nations of the world. Also included in the collection are extensive press releases regarding Breeding's political activities, campaign advertisements and recorded campaign speeches.
