Content note:
This collection covers Garner E. Shriver's 16-year representation of the 4th
Congressional District of Kansas. Arranged chronologically according to congressional
session and categorized by topic, the papers composition mainly includes bills,
remarks, legislation, cases, and general information. Agriculture, armed forces,
aviation, Veterans Administration, public works and transportation, the Vietnam
War, and atomic energy are among the topics addressed. Speeches, newspaper clippings,
films, photographs and audio tapes also are included in the collection. Shriver
was born in Towanda, Kansas, and he is a 1934 graduate of the University of
Wichita, now Wichita State University.
