The first item in this collection is entitled, "Memoir of the Late Major General Anthony Wayne." It was written sometime after 1811 and the author has not been identified. Most of the memoir is about General Wayne's service during the Revolutionary war and includes citations to sources. The second item in the collection is a manuscript copy made circa 1840 of field orders issued by General Wayne from his headquarters at Legion Ville, Pennsylvania, from December 2, 1792 to May 9, 1793. Wayne was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the United States Army in April of 1792. In November 1791, an American army under Major General Arthur St. Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory, was annihilated by Indians resisting American encroachment into the area north of the Ohio River.
