Content Note

Civil War-era letters from Maynard to his fiancée, Nellie E. Foot, comprise this collection. His letters were written from Washington, D.C., and various military sites in Maryland, Virginia and other locations. A member of the 1st Michigan Cavalry Regiment, Maynard writes about events of the war and aspects of daily life on a campaign.

Series 1 ‒ Correspondence

Box 1 FF 1 Contains letters written to Nellie E. Foot by her grandmother and D. G. Maynard who was a lieutenant of the Third Battalion, First Michigan Cavalry dated 1860-1861 during the opening months of the Civil War.
Box 1 FF 2 Contains letters written to Miss Foot from Maynard during January through June, 1862.
Box 1 FF 3 Contains letters written to Miss Foot from Maynard during July through December 1862.
