Content Note

Wendelken, a Union soldier, penned the entries in this diary from January 1 to June 29, 1863 while he served in the Western Theater of the Civil War around Tennessee and Mississippi. He was a member of Company B, 39th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The account mainly describes marches, drills, camp routines and weather conditions. A broadside that lists the men who served in the unit is also included, and it contains a brief history of the regiment.
