| Box 1 | FF 1 | Contains a 14 page typed manuscript of Rainey's "General Observations on the Situation in Russia" from June 1918 to 1919 in which he comments on the military situation in eastern Russia shortly after the Bolshevik Revolution. The main body of the report is framed in a daily journal form, written from Nishni, Udinsk, Krasnoiarsh, Novo Nikoliask, Petropovolovsk, Omsk, and Irkutsk. He accounts meetings with military commanders, encounters with British and American intelligence officers, and the conditions of the railroads, troop movements, engagements and the presence and the activities of the American, Czech, and Japanese forces in the region. |
