Box 1 FF 1 Contains a 14 page typed manuscript of Rainey's "General Observations on the Situation in Russia" from June 1918 to 1919 in which he comments on the military situation in eastern Russia shortly after the Bolshevik Revolution. The main body of the report is framed in a daily journal form, written from Nishni, Udinsk, Krasnoiarsh, Novo Nikoliask, Petropovolovsk, Omsk, and Irkutsk. He accounts meetings with military commanders, encounters with British and American intelligence officers, and the conditions of the railroads, troop movements, engagements and the presence and the activities of the American, Czech, and Japanese forces in the region.
Box 1 FF 2 Contains a 41 page hand-written account of Rainey's "General Observations on the Situation in Russia" with corrections and deletions.
Box 1 FF 3 Contains a three page manuscript expense report of Rainey's "Asiatic Expedition" from June 1918 to February 1919.
Box 1 FF 4 Contains a 12' x 8½' envelope which contained Rainey's notes and letters while he was in Siberia, 1918.
Box 1 FF 5 Contains a letter pertaining to the trip exchanged in 1931 between a companion (Edmund Heller) and another party.
Box 1 FF 6 Contains 38 original prints (ca. 3x5 inches) of photographs taken on the trip. The photographs are of high interest; while some show native residents or scenery, the majority focus on railroads, troop movements, scenes of devastation after battles, and so forth.
