The Kansas Territory Papers Collection contains letters, documents and receipts dating from 1858 to 1887, the majority of which are dated before Kansas statehood. There are several documents written or signed by John A. Martin who was governor of Kansas from 1885-1889.

|Box 1||FF 1||Contains two land deeds of sale, one dated February 9, 1858, from Shawnee County stating that Frank McNealis of Topeka sold bought some land to Edward C. K. Garvey and another dated July 10, 1858, stating that James M. Dickson of Leavenworth sold land to Peter Saples from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.|
|Box 1||FF 2||Contains a tax receipt given to George Smith for David L. Lakin from Franklin Township, Calhoun County, for $4.13, dated January 24, 1859, and a land deed of sale, dated June 24, 1859, stating that Calvin and Agnes Smith sold some land in Kansas Territory, Jefferson County to Septimus D. Cabaniss from Madison, County, Alabama.|
|Box 1||FF 3||Contains two tax receipts given to D. L. Lakin from Holton, Jackson County, Kansas Territory for $6.38 and $3.06, dated May 2 and 3, 1860; a deed of sale stating that David W. Hannah sold some land to David L. Lakin in Jefferson County, dated August 27, 1860; a deed of sale stating that John L. Starkweather sold some land to David L. Lakin, dated October 22, 1860.|
|Box 1||FF 4||Contains a letter written June 10, 1869, to S. D. Cabaniss of Huntsville, Alabama from R. M. Spires of G. H. Falls, Kansas. It informs Cabaniss of the business opportunities in Kansas; an envelope addressed to S. D. Cabaniss of Huntsville, Alabama postmarked January 6, 1869, from Leavenworth, Kansas; and a business card advertising the Tefft House, H. D. McMeekin, Proprietor, Topeka, Kansas. On the back is a handwritten note from John M. Clugston (?) stating that he met the Misses Spence of Huntsville but was presently in Topeka, Kansas.|
|Box 1||FF 5||Contains a letter addressed to Colonel S. D. Cabaniss of Huntsville, Alabama from J. A. Martin of the Legislative Department, State of Kansas, House of Representatives, Topeka dated February 20, 1874. It informs Cabaniss of some legal matter.|
|Box 1||FF 6||Contains a certificate stating that George E. Johnson of Clark County, Kansas has been appointed Notary Public by the State of Kansas signed by Governor John A. Martin dated March 28, 1887.|
