Content Note
This collection contains records for a municipal
court of Ponce, Puerto Rico, circa 1856-1867. The records are in Spanish,
and they deal mainly with land transactions, legal guardianship of children
whose fathers died, and sales of slaves. Many of the pages are undated except
for a stamp at the top of each page showing the two-year period in which
the page was filed. Most of the pages are numbered but appear to have no
real order. The condition of many of the pages is poor, and it is apparent
that some pages are missing from the records.
