Literary rights were not granted to Wichita State University. When permission
is granted to examine the manuscripts, it is not an authorization to publish
them. Manuscripts cannot be used for publication without regard for common law
literary rights, copyright laws
and the laws of libel. It is the responsibility of the researcher and his/her
publisher to obtain permission to publish. Scholars and students who eventually
plan to have their work published are urged to make inquiry regarding overall
restrictions on publication before initial research.

Content note:
The Collection of the Andre Family Papers consists of over 60 manuscript items
including two letters from major John Andre (1750-1780) to his Uncle John Lewis
Andre and a probate copy of the Last Will and Testament of Major Andre dated
June 7, 1777. The majority of the collection, a series of fifty-six letters
from J.L. Andre (Major John Andre's cousin) to his father John Lewis Andre discussing
business and family affairs with references to European political and military
developments, together with J.L. Andre's journals of his trip to Genoa in 1796.
Acquistion: Purchased by Martin Bush from the Sotheby's Sale of July 20, 1989
