as editorial cartoons. The cartoon collection includes cartoons from 1968
to 1971.
Biography
Paul Conrad was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June
27, 1924. He studied at the University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor
of Arts in 1950. He has exhibited bronze sculptures and cartoons at the
Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1979. He held the position as editorial
cartoonist at the Denver Post from 1950 to 1964, and at the Los Angeles
Times from 1964. He was the cartoonist at the Los Angeles Times Syndicate.
He also lectured at the Denver Art Museum in 1964 as part of the Cooke-Daniels
Lecture Tours. Among his awards, Paul Conrad has been given the Sigma Delta
Chi award in 1963, 1969, 1971, 1981, 1982, and 1987. He won the Pulitzer
Prize for editorial cartooning in 1964, 1971, and 1984. He won the Overseas
Press Club award in 1971 and 1981. He also won the Robert F. Kennedy award
in 1985 and 1990 and the Fellowship of Social Professions Journalists. Paul
Conrad has also authored many publications. Among them are "When in
the Course of Human Events," Sheed and Ward, 1973; "The King and
Us," Clymer Publications, 1974; "Pro and Conrad," Neff-Kane/Presido
Press, 1979; and "Drawn and Quartered," Harry N. Abrams, 1985.
