Content note:
This collection consists of photocopied letters written by William Lloyd Garrison
from various other repositories. These letters were collected and used by Walter
Merrill during his research for the book No Union With Slave-Holders: the
Letters of William Lloyd Garrison, 1841-1849, vol. III. In addition to the
letters, this collection contains research notes related to research on individual
letters. The letters with notes also extend beyond the period of the book, 1831-1879.
The letters are arranged chronologically and in most cases include a photocopy
of the original letter, a typed transcription and the research notes. All letters
have a note which identifies where the original letter is located. The collection
is arranged chronologically and the finding aid lists names the reciever of
the letter in each folder. In addition to research materials, there are also
some drafts and indexes in box 12.
