Box 1 FF 4 July 25, 1932 (postmark) Letter to parents about the sights of his journey. Begins with an explanation of his travel expenses and the price of souvenirs. Comments on the weather and altitude, then an inquiry about agriculture at home. Describes the experience of the death of a participant. Wrote of the sightseeing in Santa Fe, Petrified Forest, Lowell Observatory and especially the Grand Canyon (description, formation, tourist trips).
Box 1 FF 5 July 19, 1932 (postmark) Postcard to parents from Taos, New Mexico. Describes the sights around Taos (pueblos, church), and the production of adobe bricks.
Box 1 FF 6 July 31, 1932 (postmark) Postcard to parents from Los Angeles, California. Describes the opening ceremonies at the Olympic Games. Writes of a swim in the ocean, a visit to Tijuana and Agua Caliente and the consumption of alcohol.
