The one book in this collection, handwritten in the English language of the 1640s, comprises the official minutes of the Short Parliament, convened by Charles I on April 13, 1640. At this time, the Scots demanded a parliament to satisfy the Glasgow Assembly and to resolve differences between King Charles and his subjects. The minutes include discussions of grievances including ship money, monopolies, religion and economic conditions. When it became apparent that unity would not be accomplished, Charles dissolved the Parliament on May 5, 1640.
