Series 1 Box 1 - 2 Diaries, February 1, 1906 - July 7, 1913; January 1, 1918 - August 6, 1922; January 1, 1942 - December 31, 1977. Included in this series are both original diaries and photocopied diaries. The diaries contain a listing of FLH's daily personal and business activities, including meetings, dinner invitations, social activities and short personal entries. In general the entries do not include substantial information or private evaluation. When known, the location where the diary was written is mentioned, and efforts were made to include description of significant entries. Arranged chronologically.
Series 2 Box 3 - 17 Correspondence, 1918 - 1977. The correspondence series contains personal, business, and political correspondence. The series is arranged as received. Box 3, 1918 - 1942, is arranged by subject and then chronologically. Box 4 and part of Box 5 are arranged chronologically. All files after 1942, Boxes 5-17, are arranged chronologically in alphabetical order. The titles of the original files have been underlined in the file description. Note: FLH maintained files both at home and at his office. Correspondence, especially business correspondence, can be found in the Correspondence series and the Business Documentation and Correspondence series.
Series 3 Box 18-46 Business Documentation and Correspondence, 1918-1980. The business documentation and correspondence series contains correspondence, financial statements, annual records, business records, legal documentation, engineering and business articles, photographs, engineering sketches, blueprints, and catalogs. The series is arranged in chronological order according to a report written by FLH which describes his business activities throughout his life. A listing and brief description of the companies found in the collection has been added to the finding aid.
Series 4 Box 47-48 Personal Materials. The personal material series contains unpublished writings, political conference materials, publications, manuscripts, blueprints, and engineering articles. The contents of this series are files that were placed separately from other materials in the collection. The materials are of personal importance to FLH and reflect his many interests and life.
Series 5 Box 49 Photographs. The series contains a few oversized photographs and sketch of FLH at various stages of his life.
Series 6 Box 50-54 Scrapbooks. This series consists of five scrapbooks which contain photographs, advertising and promotional material, press releases, engineering articles, and newspaper articles. Four of the scrapbooks are for companies with which FLH was associated: Aero Screw, Air Associates, Hill Machine Co., and Hill-Rockford Co. The remaining scrapbook contains articles and photographs of airplanes built during World War II by various countries.
Series 7 Box 55 Artifacts and Oral Interview. This series contains personal memorabilia from FLH's life and taped interview with Ellen Hill by Susan K. Hess, October 10, 1995.
Series 8 Box 56 Oversized Materials. The oversized series contains encapsulated materials that were originally located in other files. The original location of these items are designated in the individual file folder descriptions.
Series 9 Box 57-60 Oversized Blueprints. The oversized blueprints series contains blueprints of Hill-Rockford Co. machinery, equipment, and buildings.

Box 1 FF7 Diary, January 1, 1918 - August 6, 1922. The entries are intermittent for 1918 and 1922. Contains entries concerning FLH's engineering activities at Dayton Wright field, in Dayton, Ohio during World War I, and his attempts to enter the Navy during the war. Also included are personal entries about Victor and Mary Loughheed. Victor Loughheed is the author of Vehicles in the Air (1909) and Aeroplane Designing for Amateurs (1909), and is the half-brother of Allen and David Loughheed, the founders of Lockheed Aviation. This organization was dedicated to limiting and restricting the centralized powers of the federal government and to strengthen sovereignty of the individual states. Also includes a proposed resolution to call a constitutional convention to amended the U.S. Constitution. The amendments are as follows: (1) Byrd-Bridges Amendment: balanced budget amendment; (2) Reed Dirkensen Amendment: income tax amendment.

(3) Bricker Amendment: treaty amendment; (4) Mundt-Coudert Amendment: electorial college amendment; (5) Reed-Walter Amendment: amendment that would give the individual states direct power to amend the U.S. Constitution.
