Content Note

The Arthur Ransom Aviation Collection consists of a scrapbook that includes newspaper articles, aviation and other photographs, Seaboard Aircraft Company stationary, and other items. The material included in this collection pertains to the career of Arthur Ransom in the aircraft business from World War I throughout the post-war years until World War II. The first section of the scrapbook includes newspaper clippings. Included in these are articles concentrating on Arthur Ransom's efforts to provide the "Mohawk Pinto," a monoplane manufactured for commercial use. Some of the articles, including those in the New York Telegram magazine, describe the creation of the Pinto and its performance in flight. Ransom's company, Seaboard Aircraft Corporation, was chosen as the distributor of the Mohawk Aircraft Corporation, and would distribute the "Pinto," and the "Redskin," and other companies' aircraft. Additional clippings describe Ransom, a former Army Air Force Lieutenant, promotion of aircraft for commercial use, including larger aircraft; Lockheed and Curtiss airplanes, showings of the Mohawk "Pinto" by the Seaboard Aircraft Corporation, and a visit by Charles Lindbergh. Advertisements for the Seaboard Aircraft Corporation and the Mohawk "Pinto," clipped from newspapers and aviation magazines, are included in the clippings section of the scrapbook. The next section of the scrapbook includes numerous photographs of various airplanes and people.
