The lesson plans presented here are intended for use with an online collection of Wichita photographs known as the Wichita Photo Archives, a joint effort of the Wichita Public Library Local History Section, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum and the Wichita State University Libraries' Department of Special Collections. They are best viewed at 800 x 600 monitor resolution.

Each lesson addresses Wichita Public Schools (USD 259) Social Studies Standards for the 4th, 8th and 11th grade levels. The activities for each level focus on examining photographs and extracting information from them in combination with research and documentation.

The plans were adapted from those initially developed by an educational consultant. The initial plans were evaluated by representatives of the Wichita Public Schools' Curriculum and Assessment department. They may be freely used.

Send us feedback about the lesson plans.
