Content Note
The J. Floyd Breeding collection
of Congressional Papers covers Breeding's political career from 1957 to 1966.
The collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, news clippings, visual
and audio materials. The collection also includes social memorabilia from
the white house during the Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson and Kennedy Administrations.
A vast majority of the papers relate to Breeding's campaign, ie., campaign
contributions and expenditures. A portion of of the collection
is correspondence between Breeding and his campaign manager, Lawrence Brennan.
These letters offer valuable insight into the Democratic political climate
in Kansas during the 1950s and 1960s. Another segment of the collection covers
Breeding's tour of duty as an expert foreign consultant with the Department
of Agriculture. This position involved world-wide trips in an attempt to exploit
the world grain market. Breeding provides an agricultural economic indicator
of the conditions in the developing nations of the world. Also included in the collection are extensive press releases regarding Breeding's political activities, campaign advertisements and recorded campaign speeches.
