Content Note

The Scottish Distillery collection largely consists of correspondence and various legal documents. Most of the correspondence deals with the buying and selling of stock and bonds in England during the 1850-1875, and most of these letters are addressed to James Irving. Some of the correspondence is also with Alexander MacAlister regarding property. The majority of later correspondence, dated 1877, is addressed to Matthew Gray and relates to legal matters. Another part of the collection contains legal documents and ledgers related to various estates in the Campbelltown area, like Tangy, Inveryne and Killean. Also included are documents related to the settlement of Alexander Greenlees estate and various agreements made between Alexander MacAlister and Charles MacTaggart.
