Content Note

Dorothy Grafly, daughter of American sculptor Charles Grafly, followed her father into the art world. As an art critic, editor and feature writer, she worked for newspapers in the Philadelphia area as well as for national publications such as Art Digest. This collection includes her correspondence, both personal and business, dating between 1899 and 1962. Scrapbooks from her childhood and school years are included as are examples of her own art work and writing style, newspaper clippings by or about her dating between 1909 and 1942, financial information, professional writings, her diaries dating between 1910 and 1932, photographs and her collection of music for piano. Typescript drafts of Sculptor's Clay, her unpublished biography of her father, also are contained in the collection.
