Description: Residence identified as the second home of Robert Lawrence at 415 South Seneca Street. Example of Victorian Romanesque architecture. The structure and grounds were purchased in 1896 by the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M for use as the Kansas Masonic Home for aging members and orphans. The building was destroyed by fire in 1916 and replaced by the current compound on the same location at the intersection of Maple and Seneca Streets.

Description: Studio portrait of Marcellus Murdock as a young boy. As a young man, Murdock worked in various positions at the Wichita Eagle, a newspaper founded by his father, Marshall M. Murdock. In 1907 he assumed the position of publisher and eventually bought the rival paper, the Wichita Beacon. His interest in aviation led him to become a pilot in 1929 and to help create the Wichita Municipal airport at that time. He was a booster for Wichita and active in civic affairs throughout his life (1883-1970).

Not to be confused with a later institution at 17th and Hillside Streets that succeeded Fairmount College and was also known as Wichita University.
